Art Foundations 1: 7th-9th grade Recommended for 7th graders Designed to give students a breadth of artistic experiences with a variety of art media. Students gain foundational skills in drawing, painting, and 2-D design. Class projects focus on the Elements and Principles of Art. This class is a prerequisite for all other art classes (with the exception of 3D Design).
Painting: 8th-9th grade Prerequisite: Art Foundations 1 This course is designed for painters of all skill levels. Students become proficient in the use of tempera, watercolor, and acrylic paint. Students gain a solid foundation in color theory, color mixing, and the expressive use of color. If taken as a 9th grader, high school fine arts credit is earned.
Art Foundations 2: 8th-9th grade Prerequisite: Art Foundations 1 This class is for the highly motivated, advanced art student. This class builds off the skills gained in Art Foundations 1, Drawing and Painting. (Although Drawing and Painting are not prerequisites, one or both are recommended before taking Foundations 2). Students work on developing a more personal artistic style. Class projects involve painting, drawing, 3D design, and creative problem-solving. If taken as a 9th grader, high school fine arts credit is earned.
3D Design: 7th-8th grade Recommended for 7th graders Skills and techniques covered during the semester include subtractive and additive sculpture, low and high relief, installation, assemblage, environmental art, casting, and book arts. Students may work with paper-mache, cardboard, wire, paper, plaster, recycled materials, fibers, and nature.
Drawing: 8th-9th grade Prerequisite: Art Foundations 1 This class is designed for students interested in developing stronger drawing skills. Topics covered include line and mark making; tone and form; composition, perspective, and viewpoint; movement and gesture; pattern and texture; and drawing from observation and imagination. Students work in a variety of drawing media including graphite, charcoal, colored pencil, pastels, scratchboard and ink. If taken as a 9th grader, high school fine arts credit is earned.
