GRADING POLICY
According to Salem Junior High School’s standards-based grading policy, grades will be assigned based on the following 4-point scale:
4 A Mastery: Student goes above and beyond to apply knowledge in unique and creative ways
3 B Proficient: Student can work independently to complete project requirements
2 C Emerging: Student shows basic understanding, but needs help to complete project requirements
1 D Minimal understanding: Student cannot complete requirements without extensive support
0 F No evidence of learning
- I Incomplete: missing assignments OR needs to receive additional help during Olympic Time
Plus and minus grades (ex: C+ or A-) will be used if a student is almost performing at another level.
Grades for each term are calculated based on the following three categories:
All graded assignments may be redone and resubmitted for a higher grade. Students that consistently turn in work late will lose points from their Professionalism grade.
Taking someone’s work or ideas and making them your own is dishonest and is a form of plagiarism. This includes having someone else work on your project, copying other students’ artwork or ideas, and copying the work or ideas of other artists (including from the internet). Students will not receive a grade for work that is not their own.
Artwork that is not in accordance with Nebo School District's policies (for example: promotes drug use or violence, is obscene or disrespectful, etc), will not be graded.
MAKE-UP WORK
Before or after an absence, it is the student’s responsibility to ask for make-up work. If a student will be absent for an extended period of time, please contact me beforehand so we can plan how to make up missed studio time. Please understand that very rarely can class art supplies be sent home to make up assignments.
